What do you see when you look into the eyes of an animal?
I bring my dog, Bodie with me to work more days than not. Especially lately. My job can be stressful. Sometimes stepping away from the desk to take the dog or a quick walk just clears my head.
This is not the first time I’ve brought a dog to the office with me. Years ago there was Coda, my big black lab – for the first three years of his life he went to work with me every day. He was a hard core commuter. I’ve always had one of those doggie hammocks in the back seat of my cars for my four legged coworkers. It saves the back seat from hair, dirty paws and scratches while keeping the dog from sailing off the seat in case I need to stop short or something. They can stretch out and get comfy for the ride.
Bodie loves his days in the office. He cruises from desk to desk and office to office, getting attention, scratches, praise and (most importantly) treats. I try to buy the bags of Milkbone Trailmix because the treats are teeny and he doesn’t need to be a little fatty with a uni-boob jiggling around. I have a bag of treats on my desk. Bodie will come over and BOOP the arm of my chair with his nose (quite aggressively sometimes!) until I give him his “pay”.
What do you see when you look into the eyes of an animal? I see a soul. I see innocence, hope, love, trust, humor. I see my friend.
